DESERT VISION

...happenned
I didn't see
split second
change of direction
mind a traffic jam of
thoughts and actions

I turn the wheel
then saw
vehicle passing roar
of wheels
doing 100, or more
wooshing by, swinging out
to miss my car
lucky thing
cause that steel pole on side of road
had a leering grin!

here in Australia
the locals are getting screwed over again
most don't know it yet, but they will soon
it's assumed they won't fight back
that they're a powerless, broken, voiceless mob
no English education to help them
fight this legislation
hard won land rights being swept out the door
in the spin of pre-election whim
or maybe its those men behind closed door!
the smell of money from NT land
its hot rocks and oily sand
has fanned the flames of greed
and the need
to use the locals as pawns
their issues as scores
instead of blood this time there's tears on the sand

these days corruption wears a businesslike face
its glasses, clean shaven,
blade cuts through
human rights

I watch, no fight
overwhelmed, speechless
mute, dumbfounded
emptied, feeling stupid
all my efforts fruitless,
in vain?

the shame!

my heart skips a beat
feels weak
shocked at how 'progress'
has peaked and now recedes
to lower levels and leaves a dirty scum
a shocking tribute to former heights
what can I do now
what might...

this pain turn into?
rage?
I've filled this page
Let's see if this great wrong can be
turned right.
